Migrating Links

Migrate from short.io

Fynlink supports importing links & custom domains from many popular URL shortening services. In this document, we will show you how to migrate your custom domains and short links from Short.io to Fynlink with a few clicks.


Migration using our custom import tool is free!

Migrating links and custom domains (for branded links) from Short.io to Fynlink is free, and will not count towards your monthly usage and charges!

Follow these steps below to import your short links & custom domains.

⚡ Step 1: Get an API key from short.io

  • Log in to short.io and select Integrations & API from the menu. Alternatively you can click on this link to directly go to the API page, after login. Short.io menu
  • Click on Create API Key button. A new modal will be opened, where you can customize your API key. Short.io API
  • Provide a key description if required, and leave all other fields as it is. Click on Create button. A new API key will be generated. Short.io Create API
  • Copy the generated API key and keep it somewhere secure, we will need it soon. Short.io API Key

⚡ Step 2: Start migration

Make sure you have the right permission!

Only an Owner or Administrators of a team can perform migrations.

  • Log in to fyn.link and navigate to the Links page from the menu. Alternatively you can click on this link to directly go to the Links page, after login. Short.io menu

  • A slider will be opened to the right. Enter the API Key that we created earlier, in the input box and click on Continue Short.io API

  • Select all the domains you wish to import links for and click on Import button. We will also create the domain in our system for you, however you will need to manually add CNAME record for the domain to work. This can be done after the import. Short.io

    You can also select any of the advanced options that needs to be applied to your imported links. These options are designed for better privacy and security.

  • The import may take some time depending on the number of links. The import works in the background, and you will be notified via email & our notification panel regarding the status of the import. Short.io

⚡ Step 3: Activate domains

We will also import the domains associated with the links for you. You can find these domains in the Pending Domains section in the Custom Domains page. You can access this from your team Overview page, or by clicking this link directly.

It is better to activate the domain once the import is finished!

This will ensure minimum downtime for your short links. Once the domain is activated, you are free to remove your existing links from old shortening service.

You will need to add a CNAME record for each of these imported domains to point to cname-fyn.link in order to activate it. Learn more about adding CNAME record here. Once added, you can refresh status by clicking the Refresh button.


Which fields are migrated from short.io?

The following fields are imported as part of the migration:

  • Short URL
  • Target URL
  • Link expiry
  • Archived status
  • Link title
  • Link tags

The following fields are imported, but will not work immediately. These features will be available in a future release:

  • iOS device targeting (Planned for May 2024 release)
  • Android device targeting (Planned for May 2024 release)
  • Link cloaking (No timeline available)

The following fields are NOT imported:

  • Link password
  • Link 404 URL
  • Link redirection type

Bonus: The original link Id, created and updated timestamps are also saved. You can view them in link Metadata!
