Privacy & security

Suspicious Links

Learn how Fynlink identifies, handles, and protects users from suspicious or potentially harmful links through automated systems and user reporting.

There are multiple ways to report a potentially suspicious or harmful link:

  1. Preview Mode / Safe Mode: Add a + or - symbol to any short link URL to view it in preview mode. For example:

    • Original URL: https://fyn.li/suspicious-link
    • Preview Mode: https://fyn.li/suspicious-link+

    In preview mode, you can:

    • Use the flag icon next to the target link
    • Access the report abuse link in the footer
  2. Direct Reporting: Visit fyn.link/report-abuse to report any suspicious short URLs

Important Privacy Notice

Please note that any short URL can be reported by other users, and reported links may be viewed by Fynlink staff or passed to third-party security tools for analysis if required. However, only a very small percentage of reported links are actually reviewed by humans or passed to third-party tools - most suspicious link detection and blocking is handled automatically by our internal systems.

Link Review Process

  • Reviewed by automated systems within minutes
  • May be analyzed by third-party security tools
  • May be reviewed by human moderators within 24 hours
  • If found malicious, the link will be shown in preview mode and the user will be notified

When a link is reported and confirmed as suspicious:

  • It will be shown in preview mode / safe mode
  • Automatic redirection will be blocked
  • Warning text will be displayed to users

Aggressive Detection for Built-in Domains

Our systems are intentionally more aggressive with short URLs created using our built-in free domains (e.g., fynl.in, fyn.li) to maintain domain reputation and prevent wholesale blocking. This may occasionally result in false positives.

For more reliable operation, we recommend using custom domains, which are not subject to the same level of scrutiny.

If your link has been automatically blocked or reported as suspicious, you can appeal the decision:

  • Access the appeal option in the link details panel of the web app
  • Provide a clear explanation for why the link should be unblocked
  • Submit your appeal for review

Appeal Limitations & Privacy Notice

Please note that you can only submit one appeal every 24 hours. Make sure to provide comprehensive information in your appeal to increase the chances of approval. All appeals will be either reviewed by human moderators or passed to third-party security tools or both, and the decision will be made based on the information provided and the severity of the violation.

Automatic Detection

Some links are automatically flagged as suspicious based on our internal security tools. When this happens:

  • Links will always display a preview page
  • Automatic redirection will be blocked
  • Users will see clear warning messages

Privacy and Security Balance

Our suspicious link detection system is designed with privacy in mind:

  • Fully Automated: No humans at Fynlink can read your target links
  • Minimum Logging: Minimal logs are created without any actual link content

Dynamic Security Rules

There are no fixed rules for suspicious link detection as our security tools and rules are updated frequently to combat new threats. This dynamic approach helps maintain platform security while protecting user privacy.

Custom Domains vs Built-in Domains

The suspicious link detection system operates differently based on domain type:

Built-in Domains:

  • Subject to aggressive automated checks
  • Higher likelihood of false positives
  • Stricter security measures to protect domain reputation

Custom Domains:

  • Not included in automatic security checks
  • Greater flexibility and control
  • No false positives
  • Recommended for business and professional use

Best Practices

To minimize false positives and ensure smooth operation:

  1. Use custom domains for professional or high-volume link sharing
  2. Always preview links before sharing them widely
  3. Report any suspicious activity promptly

Zero Tolerance for Malicious Content

Strict Policy on Malicious Content

Fynlink maintains a zero-tolerance policy for users who create or share malicious content. If a user is found sharing malware, phishing sites, or other harmful content:

  • All links created by the user will be immediately quarantined
  • The user account will be deleted or restricted without warning
  • No appeals will be considered for malicious content violations

This will be enforced only after a thorough human review of the content.

This strict policy helps maintain platform safety and protect our users from harmful content. Examples of malicious content include:

  • Malware distribution
  • Phishing websites
  • Scam pages
  • Other forms of harmful content
